The robot-vacuum category is starting to move vertically. Roborock’s Saros Z70 brought a foldable five-axis mechanical arm into a commercial product, while Dreame’s Cyber10 Ultra pushes the idea toward separate tool use and heavier object handling.
Why this is interesting
- A robot that can move a sock or sandal may reclaim floor area that obstacle avoidance currently has to abandon.
- Tool use could reach narrow gaps or corners without making the entire robot wider.
- The technology creates a path from “floor cleaner” toward a more general-purpose household robot — but only if it saves real time.
What the manufacturer has actually confirmed
- Roborock says Saros Z70 can recognise and relocate selected small objects using its OmniGrip arm.
- Dreame says Cyber10 Ultra can move larger objects and use separate cleaning tools autonomously.
- These systems are still highly constrained compared with a human hand, so RightRobot treats the supported object/tool list as more important than the phrase “robotic arm”.
What we still don't know
Manufacturer-supported object lists and software behaviour can change. A mechanical arm also adds moving parts, cost and new failure modes, so long-term ownership evidence matters.
